Three parts of the letter

Which job. "I am writing about the sales manager position" makes it clear at once, even if the company has several openings.
One or two things from your experience that match the job. A number or a fact: "I handle 40 clients", "up to 25 delivery stops a day", "tax reports with no fines".
What next. "I would be glad to meet" or "I can start on Monday". No "I look forward to hearing from you".

3 to 5 sentences in total. Hardly anyone reads long letters to the end.

Sales: "Hello! I am writing about the sales manager position. For three years I have handled B2B clients in building materials distribution, and last year I hit 118% of my plan. I have my own car and am ready for field work."

Mistakes that get a letter skipped

The same text for every job, even with a different job title.
Stock phrases: "responsible, sociable, resistant to stress".
Made-up facts: the employer will ask about them at the interview.
A letter longer than the CV itself.
